Description |
Abenaki-made needle holder. Two flat circles woven of sweetgrass and ash splint dyed green. Inside the rounds are two pieces of fabric, loosely fixed to one round with a torn piece of green ribbon (originally in a loop to hold fabric in place). Sewing needles would have been stored in the fabric pieces. |
Notes |
Paper tag tied through loops of sweetgrass pieces. Handwritten on tag in ink on one side: "'Abenaki'" and on other side "Mrs Pacquette / 1926". No indication regarding identify of Mrs. Pacquette, whether she was a previous owner or the maker. Also not clear whether date, 1926, is year of manufacture or collection, etc. |
