Description |
Souvenir pipe from Ausable Chasm. Small wooden "pipe" with stereotypical image of a Native American man wearing a feather headdress, head at side profile, on one side and "Ausable Chasm, N.Y [sic]" written on other side. Wooden pipe with plastic tip. |
Notes |
Same image (stereotypical depiction of Native American head profile with feather headdress) found on a wooden pipe listed on Ebay, originally sold in Lansing, Michigan. Appears pipe was mass-produced and sold widely as souvenir. This image largely comes from historically ignorant interpretations of Native American imagery and the headdress is most related to ceremonial examples from Plains/Dakota nations and are not authentic to pieces used by members of the Haudenosaunee confederacy past or present. |
