Description |
Lithograph, hand colored: depicts a farmyard political debate. The men in the center are enthusiastically discussing something. One man holds a newspaper. The man in the center is whittling and there is a hound at his feet. The man to the left is sitting on a log and has a powder horn over his shoulder, a rifle and pack to his side. To the right is a man wearing a red shirt who apparently had been chopping wood, a young girl is tugging on his trousers and pointing toward a woman who is standing in the doorway and calling from the log house in the center. In the background is a woodpile, barn, fields and trees. Depicted from left to right: Anthony Sprague, Jonathan Bellows, Francis Bellows, Georgia Bellows, Sophrone Thurber (in doorway of cabin). |
