Description |
Corn Washing Basket. Utility/work basket with square base and larger round, almost-circular rim and top made of black ash splint. Splint is woven with twill weave to allow water to run out and corn to stay. There are four corners of the base for the basket to rest on. The center of the base is raised slightly higher than the corners. Corn washing baskets are used to rinse and prepare boiled corn before eating. The twill weave helps separate the hull of the corn kernels from the softer interior while also washing the corn. Two handles (possibly carved from white ash?) that are notched to seamlessly fit into the woven splint. |
