Description |
Folding candle lantern made steel. It is 10 inches high and 5 inches wide. Windows on three sides are made of very thin sheets of the transparent mica. Inside at the bottom there is a fixture for holding a candle, and the bottom panel is perforated for ventilation. The lantern has a peaked lid with handle at top for carrying. On either side of lid, printed in raised letters is: "STONEBRIDGE / FOLDING LANTERN / PAT'D / NOV. 20, 1906 JUNE 9, 1908 / C.H. STONEBRIDGE M'F'G CO./ N.Y.C. / MADE IN / U.S.A." This model folds to a flat rectangle measuring about 5 x 8 inches, so it would be easy to carry in a backpack. It was patented by C.H. Stonebridge on June 9, 1908; patent number 890193. Used by Dr. Thomas S.K. Morton. He built a camp on Indian River which reverted(?) to the Adirondack League Club. It used special candles that burned 14 hours, - now unobtainable. Provenance: Honnedaga Lake and surrounding area. |
