Princess model decked cruising canoe OLD JOE built in the Rushton shop for Joe Ellsworth of Canton. Northern white cedar lapstrake planking (no Spanish cedar sheer strake), slippery elm ribs, plywood (replacement) deck. Nickel-plated brass hardware. Fully battened batwing sails. Two cargo hatches with covers. In the forward end of the cockpit is a pedestal for foot-steering gear: an arch of wood running fore and aft on the forward end of the centerboard trunk which has a hole in the top and a matching hole in the centerboard trunk. The rod for the foot steering gear is inserted through the two holes and pivots there. Three mast steps with nickel-plated ferrules. Folding brass Radix centerboard.No builder's plate or stamp. a. hull 14 ft. X 31", 100 lbs. b. main (mast, lines, sail, battens) (see separate record for description and measurements) c. mizzen (mast, lines, sail, battens) (" ") d. rudder and lines Spruce rudder blade (21" /x 15") attaches to hull with two brass pintles. Horizontal yoke (17 1/2 X 13 3/4) fits through a hole in the top of the rudder and is fastened with a brass pin. Nylon line is looped through a hole on each side of yoke, seized to itself, and extends 10 feet forward to be knotted to foot steering gear mounted on the cockpit sole. e. foot steering gear turned wooden post with a square end inserted into a curved yoke with a hole at each end for the lines from the rudder. 6 1/2" X 18". f. hatch cover plywood (replacement) square with spruce frame that fits inside of hatch on forward deck. Brass plate on port side protects a slit that fits over a tang on the deck through which a padlock could be inserted. On the starboard side inside is mounted a small wooden pad covered with brass that rests on a metal pad inside the hatch. 13 1/2" X 12 1/2" g. floorboard Plywood floorboard (replacement) with a long hole forward that fits over the centerboard trunk and a small one aft for a post and button mounted on the keel to hold the floorboard in place. 76" X 16" (not rectangular; fitted to bottom of boat) h. floor tarp Canvas to cover and protect the floorboard from abrasion. Has a rectangular hole forward for the foot steering gear pedestal and a round hole aft for the post of the Radix board. 7' X 28". Hemmed fore and aft. |
