Rustic tall clock case (lacks upper clock section). Applied birch bark and split stick in complex geometric designs. Decorative motifs include a sunburst-like symbol on the upper door, a side view of a lean-to and of a log cabin on either side of the lower section. The date "1889" in twig numerals is on a panel above the upper door. The doors to each section open to shelves. Like Bryere tall case clock (1974.225.0001), no traditional clockworks were intended. Envelope tacked (now removed to accession folder) to inside of upper door: "22 days work on clock/ 168 bark panels/ 1453 rustic sticks/ cost of work 77.00" on both sides of envelope. |
