Gelatin Silver Copyprint. Photo shows the locomotive hauling directly behind it a load of wood, presumably for use in providing the steam pressure to run the train. The letters on the side above the name "DeWitt C. West." are U & B R R R which stands for Utica and Black River Railroad. This railroad originally began as the Black River and Utica Railroad and was reorganized following a foreclosure sale as the Utica and Black River Rail Road in 1858.
