Summary |
Notebooks of Frederick Atherton "Adirondack" Hodges of Utica and Blue Mountain Lake, a photographer and sportsman. Essays consist of reminiscences of trips in the Adirondacks, primarily in Herkimer and Hamilton counties in the area of Old Forge, the Fulton Chain, Raquette Lake, and Blue Mountain Lake. Notebooks include Hodges' impressions and recollections of Adirondack guides (including Ed Arnold), hotels and steamboats on the Fulton Chain of lakes, hunting and fishing trips, guide boats, and the geography of the area. Writings are mostly undated. Edited versions of excerpts from Hodges' notebooks, as well as a biographical piece on Hodges, can be found in The Heydays of the Adirondacks by Maitland C. DeSormo, Hodges' son-in-law. |
