Scope & Content |
Typed transcript of an 1865 account of a hunting and camping trip at Tupper Lake. Identified participants include John A. Cross, Seymour L. Husted, Henry Wood, John Jay Wood, Henry G. Morris and James Wood. Includes description of travel from Mt. Kisco to Bartlett's on Upper Saranac Lake by rail, steamboat, stagecoach and boat. From there they party went to Tupper Lake by boat, with guides, for several days of camping and hunting. Mentions finding the name of poet and NY State Librarian Alfred B. Street and his companions carved into a hemlock tree. It is unclear from the typescript which of the party members wrote the journal, although given the provenance of the collection it was likely written by Henry, John Jay or James Wood. |
