Admin/Biographical History |
Brothers Robert (1901 - 1939) and George (1904 - 2000) Marshall, along with their friend and guide Herb Clark, were the first to set out to climb all of the Adirondack High Peaks - those mountains that are over 4,000 feet high. Their subsequent writing about the experiences inspired the creation of the Adirondack 46ers club. Robert and George were also conservationists, with Robert working as a forester, spearheading the founding of the Wilderness Society in 1935 and writing about the Alaskan wilderness before his early death in 1939. George continued working with the Wilderness Society after his brother's death, and served many leadership roles in the Sierra Club in addition to his political activism. |
