Description Jack plane. This type of plane is most widely used of bench planes. It is used for planing off the most amount of wood in the least amount of time, i.e. roughing work. Shaped wooden handle. Cutter and wedge. Metal bolt through top of body, near the front end. Rectangular body. Back, top edge of the body is rounded. Prior marks on cutter: "Baldwin Tool Co. Butcher's Cast Steel Warranted". Prior marks on end of body: "Union Factory" (body) and "H. Chapin".
