With: "Stoddard Photo." at opposite corner. Handwritten in red ink, top right corner of mount: "G.S.A. 422" with the "422" blocked out in pencil. Printed on white paper, glued on corner of mount: "889." Hand written in red ink at lower margin of mount: "over." Printed on white paper, glued to back: "Ausable Chasm, Adirondacks. A post-glacial gorge cut in Potsdam Sandstone. This is a good type of the many gorges of New York, all of which may be classed as the product of streams turned across old rocky divides by drift barriers now occupying their former valleys."
